Neptune's Queen

When beach combing, shards of glass suddenly appear in the glint of the afternoon sun, reminding this wee lass of her grandmother's tale of a Mermaid's tears shed long, long ago when she cried for her beloved sea captain who drowned in a storm. She could have saved him but the course of nature would have changed forever and her stern, watchful God of the sea, Neptune, forbade her to interfere with man's fate. So she cried beautiful tears; tears, the bewitching colours of the ocean.
