The goddess of peace, Pax Eirene, blesses each spring with bounty for all humankind from the earth and the sea. My town Pugwash was bestowed with the motto, “World Famous For Peace”, after the 1957 meeting of international scholars and scientist opposed to nuclear war. I am proud of this wee village that holds such respect in the world of conflict mediation, discussion and resolution. The Greek philosopher Euripides exclaimed, “How far peace outweighs war in benefits to man”. Back in Pugwash, fishing the wild Atlantic waters is a danger that is only possible when a crew of fishers respect and value each other’s safety and share the rewards. Peaceful cooperation is vital if we are to truly expect bounty in our lives. This mat was inspired by the war in Ukraine, and all conflicts in our modern world. May peace reign.
